Fleet Management
At a company where I worked, we had a client from the transportation industry. We provided them with a Corporate Management Software Solution, which included a personalized fleet management module. The work we did on this module is what I'll be describing here.
User Pain Points
The consulting team visited the client, observed their current operations, met with management and stakeholders, and ultimately identified the following main pain points.
-
1
The information available to keep track of the fleet and manage daily operations is not consistent.
-
2
Keeping trip manifests in order and up to date requires an extra effort from upper management.
-
3
Keeping trip manifests in order and up to date requires an extra effort from upper management.
The Problem
The client does not have a centralized system capable of managing their entire fleet across their different operation centers.
Solution
At OCAM, we designed a fleet management system that helped the client gather their most relevant operational data, updated on a daily basis, and processed to be analyzed graphically.
Design Approach
To motivate rapid and successful adoption of the new system, the module must be presented in a language that is familiar to fleet managers.
The system must be easy to manage. It should be simple to add Operation Centers, add and relocate trucks, and manage the database of drivers for each center.
The system should require only the relevant data from users.
For fleet managers, the process of inputing daily trip data should be intuitive and take as little time as possible.
Results
We designed an interface that guides fleet managers through each of their trucks with the purpose of updating their trip information for the day.
The data gathered from this interface is automatically processed by the OCAM system to provide management with information like Total Trips Made, Distance Traveled, Products Picked Up and Delivered, Truck Availability, and the Company’s Efficiency to meet client demands.
The client now has successfully implemented the fleet management system at every operation center, providing valuable business data for upper management to make the right decisions on taking the company to the next level.
